For anyone who will be in the Pittsburgh, PA area this Saturday July 10th there is a cool event at the Allegheny Cemetery. I think this is unique because not many cemeteries hold "festival" type events. It will be held from 11:00 am to 4:00 pm on the cemetery grounds.
Allegheny Cemetery is a beautiful historic landmark rich in history. One of the more famous "residents" is the composer Stephen Foster. The phrase Doo Dah is from one of his more famous songs. There will be old fashioned type musical groups (think banjos), tours of famous interments and the beautiful scenery, a petting zoo, food, plus others. If you are interested see my previous post Picnics at the Cemetery for more information, a video, and links.
I hope to be able to attend and definitely will post about it. I have a large number of ancestors buried there so I want to visit their graves as well as attend the events. Which means I have a lot of work to do organizing my genealogy data so I can find the graves, it is a huge cemetery. I just hope it is not 100 degrees or raining!
