We did another bike ride last weekend. Usually we ride through woodsy areas on the trails by our house but choose to do something different--bike into the city. I was surprised the hubby wanted to do this because he generally hates going near let alone INTO the city. But it turned out to be a really enjoyable ride.
We rode from the Waterfront in Homestead into and a bit beyond the Southside of Pittsburgh. We chose to stop and "park" our bikes in the Southside (very biker friendly here-easier to park your bicycle than your car) to walk around and have lunch. As my husband was chaining the bikes outside the REI bike shop I spied a Praying Mantis right on the side of the building.
Close up this interesting creature.
Right past the Southside there is a small park next to the river which appears to be a hangout for geese. When we were there more and more geese kept swimming up the river and coming ashore. Here are f ew pictures of the geese.
They did not seem bothered by our presence, guess they are used to people. This guy seemed to be doing a ballet arabesque with his leg. He stretched his leg out and stood that way the whole time we were there.
Even in the city there are lots of opportunities to see wildlife!
